SP mods don't work in MP unless they are converted to e.g. Bukkit plugins. From what I understand there's a project in the works called "Spout" that will allow devs to integrate client and server mods seamlessly but it is probably months away from reaching any kind of feasibility.

Yeah, Spoutcraft formely known as BukkitContrib. The Spoutcraft client is so annoying though. It has a mandatory update every other day that gives little to no extra functionality besides breaking any mods you had going.

The good thing is that it includes Optistuff so the noobs that need that to run will be happy. It's initial functionality will be customisable NPC's and stuff, and planned a mile away include anything that someone could program into it. Like, you could make a whole range of extra weapons that everyone could see and shit.

I'm keen, but this will be more of a wait than Minecraft 1.9.
