Most of the blocks are obtainable that way also, excluding spawner stuff. I don't see a problem with the mushroom block idea.

Not really actually, sponge cant and Mossy stone brick/mossy cobble and those have recipes cause they are extremely rare.

Mushroom blocks aren't exactly all that common. On the current map I have yet to stumble upon a mushroom biome, so if somebody wants mushroom blocks, they'd either have to look a pretty good while, or we could just put a recipe in. I personally don't care.

If you need mushroom blocks for some reason quickest way to do it would be to get some brown and red mushrooms, "plant" them in some grass somewhere then use bonemeal on the mushrooms to make the big mushrooms. After that you just need a silk touch to harvest the mushroom blocks.

Red and Brown Mushrooms: Fairly common - can probably buy them from people if you can't find any growing.
Bonemeal: Common - People have bones and bonemeal that they would just give away if you need some.
Silk touch: Least common - Only really difficult thing that you need to get, which again you might be able to buy off someone. You could also just xp farm for a while and try your luck at getting a silk touch enchantment.

I really don't think there needs to be a recipe for it under these conditions, imo.

Should have made clearer in the previous post, all you said was
mushroombadger wrote:Not sure if necessary but how about mushroom biome block
You didn't say the dirt blocks from a Mushroom biome there. You just said Mushroom biome block. First there are many blocks within every biome so I just figured the ones that are most prominently different from other biomes which were the mushrooms. As for the dirt blocks, well all dirt blocks are the same. The grass block, technically speaking, I guess in a mushroom biome is the mycelium block. As of right now I don't see any of those on the map. If no Mushroom biomes are generated on the new map that we'll be transitioning to then I would support the idea of a recipe for it.

There are two within the bounds already. They are going to get raped.

I don't want to devalue silk touch picks with recipes though.

Just to protect them, I would make 1 block in each mushroom biome protected. The mushroom thing spreads as long as there's dirt around.

Yeah, but do you really want people bugging you to do it all the time? This way, they can trek there themselves with some dirt and sort it out. It's all about self sufficiency and I repeat, not having people beating down your door. I make sense, listen to me.

Might be nice, but 'all the time' wont happen.
Just zone a view blocks, and your done.

it appears in 1.3, Jeb made silk touch to work on ice again. Do you plan to take ice out of the crafting recipes once that comes?
