Well, whenever I try to join any smp server I get the error "Failed to verify username" I can't figure out why it's happening, so does anyone know?

EDIT: Turns out a fuckton of people are getting the error too, but help would still be appreciated. Thanks!

It means Minecraft authentication servers are down. Absolutely nothing we can do until Minecraft fixes it. It happens time to time when Minecraft servers get overloaded or Notch eats another bagel and accidentally steps on the power cords.
