Guide for new Builders!

Post by Allie »

NOTE: I am reposting this from the SpA forums, as the TinyUrl link referenced in the School world still points to there. It is currently missing some commands that Builders are capable of, but the important ones are all covered. With the new School world that's coming soon, it will be fully updated in a much improved format. I also opted to leave out the you-know-what command to hopefully cut down on some of the problems we've been having lately ;)

--------------------------

Hello there!

If you are reading this, then you have probably just been promoted to the Builder rank! Congratulations! Before you continue building, there are some things you'll need to know. This is a guide to the new abilities you will be able to use as a Builder. Throughout this guide, I will explain in detail how to use all of your new commands. Videos will be provided for most of them.

If you would like to give these commands a try in-game, you can visit our Builder School! To go there, type /goto School in your chat box.

Builder Worlds

One of the most important features of becoming a Builder is the ability to build in Builder worlds. These are worlds created specifically for players of the Builder rank or higher to build in. Guests are not able to build in them, so there is a far lower chance of your work being griefed. In addition, the worlds are taller, so there is more room for you to work with!

To join a Builder world, type /goto builderx into your chat box, replacing x with the number of the world you would like to join. For example, if I wanted to go to Builder45, I would type /goto builder45.

General List of New Commands:
/tp - Teleport to another player.
/c (or /cuboid) - Draw a cube between two specified blocks.
/h (or /cuboidh) - Draw a hollow cube between two specified blocks.
/e (or /ellipsoid) - Draw an ellipse or sphere between two specified blocks.
/water - Toggle water mode. Any blue blocks placed will be replaced with water.
/lava - Toggle lava mode. Any red blocks placed will be replaced with lava.
/r (or /replace) - Replace one specified block with another specified block.
/p (or /paint) - Enable paint mode (replacement mode).
/kick - Kick a player. **USE WISELY*

/tp - Teleport
Usage: /tp [player]
Example: /tp Astelyn

Teleport can be used to teleport to another player. This command will only work if the player you are teleporting to is logged in. You can teleport to players who are in other worlds.

If a player's name is long or too hard for you to type, you may type just a few letters of their name. For example, if you want to teleport to a player named FreddyMcBurgerPants, you could just type /tp freddy. However, if there is more than one player on the server whose name starts with "freddy", then you will have to type more letters of his or her name.

/c - Cuboid
Usage: /c [type of block]
Examples: /c, /c air, /c red

Cuboid is a very useful command that will allow you to draw many blocks at once. To use this command:
  • 1. Type /c in the chat box.
    2. Click where you want your cube to start. If you want your cube to start where there is already a block, left click on that block.
    3. Click where you want your cube to end.
A cube will be drawn in between the two blocks you chose. This may be confusing to some, so if you are having trouble, make sure to watch the video tutorial for the Cuboid command.

By default, the Cuboid command will draw a cube using the block that you currently have selected. However, you can specify a different type of block.

Examples:
  • /c water will create a cube of water.
/c lava will create a cube of lava.
/c grass will create a cube of grass.

/h - Hollow Cuboid
Usage: /h [type of block]
Examples: /h, /h red

/h is a command very similar to Cuboid. It is used the same way as Cuboid, except it will create a hollow cube instead. This means that the wall of the cube will be one block thick. This could be useful when making walls of a building, for example.

/e - Ellipsoid
Usage: /e [type of block]
Examples: /e, /e air, /e red

Ellipsoid is another drawing command similar to Cuboid. It is used to draw circles, ovals, spheres, and...egg-like shapes, depending on how you use it. Like Cuboid, you must mark two blocks, and the Ellipsoid will be drawn between the two blocks. However, it may be a bit hard to judge where to mark to make an Ellipsoid at first. Here's a diagram of a circle built using Ellipsoid:

Image

In this image, the red blocks are the two blocks I used to mark where to draw the Ellipsoid. The edges of the circle line up with the two marks. The center of the circle is in the exact center between the two marks.

You can also use Ellipsoid to create spheres or eggs. This works in the same way as drawing a circle or oval would; you mark two blocks, and a sphere or egg will be drawn between them. Like with a circle, the edges of the sphere will line up with the marks. This is a bit harder to show in a picture, so you may want to watch the video tutorial and try it out a few times at the Builder School before putting this command to use.

/water - Water Mode
Usage: /water

/water will toggle Water mode. When Water mode is enabled, all blue blocks will be replaced with Water. You can turn Water mode off by typing /water in the chat box again.

/lava - Lava Mode
Usage: /lava

/lava will toggle Lava mode. When Lava mode is enabled, all red blocks will be replaced with Lava. You can turn Lava mode off by typing /lava in the chat box again.

/r - Replace
Usage: /r [type block to be replaced] [type of block to replace it with]
Examples: /r red blue, /replace air water

Replace will allow you to replace many blocks of the same type with another type of block all at once. For example, if you decide that your house should have green walls instead of purple walls, you can use the Replace command to replace them.

To use this command:
  • 1. Type /r [type of block to be replaced] [type of block to replace it with] into the chat box. In this case, we would type /r purple green.
    2. Mark two opposite corners of the area that you want replaced. It is okay if you select more than just the blocks you want to replace!
In order to use Replace effectively, you will need to know the names of all the block types. Here is a list of all the block types and their names:

/p - Paint (Replacement mode)
Usage: /p

Paint, otherwise known as Replacement mode, allows you to replace existing blocks with your currently selected block by left clicking on them. This can be very useful for creating pixel art, or writing words on something. Typing /p will toggle Replacement mode. Typing the command again will turn it off.

Clearing blocks

Now that you know how to create all these large shapes, it may be nice to know how to delete them! If you need to delete a shape, there are several ways to do so:
  • /c air - Clears an area in the shape of a cube between two marks. Used exactly like Cuboid.
/e air - Clears an area in the shape of an ellipsoid between two marks. Used exactly like Ellipsoid.
In most cases, it is easiest to use /c air to clear an area, even if you are deleting an ellipsoid. However, if you need to delete just an ellipsoid and nothing around it, it may be better to use /e air. This is something you may need to experiment with.

Using /mark
You might find yourself in a situation where you are creating a Cuboid and are unable to click on anything to mark a corner of your cube. For example, if you want your cube to start on the ground and end in the sky, you might have some trouble. This is where /mark comes in handy.

/mark will mark your character's exact location. It can be used when creating a Cuboid or an Ellipsoid.

To use this command:
  • 1. Begin by using one of the draw commands (/c, /e, /h).
    2. Move to the spot where you want the corner of your cube/sphere to be.
    3. Type /mark in the chat box.
This can be incredibly confusing to learn just by reading, so please be sure to watch the video tutorial on using /mark.

/kick - Kick
Usage: /kick [player] [reason]
Examples: /kick StupidGrieferNoob Destroying my work

/kick becomes available to you when you become a Builder. However, this command should be used for EMERGENCIES ONLY. Kicking rule-breaking players is the job of the Ops, Supops, and +Trustees (or +Trustesses, of course!). However, in some cases, Builders may have a need to kick someone.

Rules for kicking players:
  • 1. Only kick a player if they are seriously harming your work or the work of someone else and an Op or higher is not around.
    2. If a player is breaking any other rules, let a player with the rank of Op or higher know immediately.
    3. Please make an attempt to warn the player before kicking. Only kick if they ignore your warning.
    4. When kicking a player, you MUST LEAVE A REASON. Not leaving a reason is seriously frowned upon, and will inevitably earn you a demotion if it is continued.
As with teleporting, when kicking players, you may type only a few letters of the player's name if they have a long or hard-to-type name.

So, now that you have read this guide, hopefully you have at least a general idea of what you are now capable of! If you ever have a question, feel free to ask any admin, or even Veteran players. We are ALWAYS willing to help!
