Ace of Spades hijinx

Post by Ollieboy »

Just for a bit of fun I threw up an Ace of Spades server for some nostalgia (The link is at the bottom under "Other Games". You must have the software installed.)

Either way, Minecraft maps are allowable through a converter for an area of 512*512*64! Currently on there is a Salvezza map from way back, and here is a snap of it in action (Xesdra and I took down the temple).

Later on we might consider making some custom areas for Ace of Spades if the server picks up, with some pre-made forts and whatnot.

For those unfamiliar with the game, and/or want to download the game package, http://www.ace-spades.com/. After you install it, head to the link and it will open up.

This game had so much potential. The trench warfare aspect was great. But instead the devs bowed to pressure from reddit and turned it into a team fortress clone, just in a minecraft style. The servers are now packed with hackers, and no-one knows how to build.

fCraft's Ace of Spades server has 25 users online now. It was full few minutes ago. Ollieboy you need to set some admins, take a look at this This. We need a new/better map too :3 this one is raped.

...and if you are serious with hosting a server use a custom server like pyspades (WARNING: Needs Python) pyspades.

Also i suggest using Spadille, it's a server browser GUI with some neat features like admin tools.

Some people asked how to change there in-game name:
1. Go to "Ace Of Spades" folder. (Usually: C:\Program Files\Ace of Spades or C:\Program Files (x86)\Ace of Spades)
2. Find the "config" file and open it.
3. Find this line

Code: Select all

name                           = YourOldName
4. Edit the "YourOldName".
5. Save.

Yeah I know about the pyspades stuff, and will be looking into it this afternoon when I get home, but of course I just set it up for a lol before I went to bed last night. I'll have a fiddle with it if it is popular but I thought it would just sit there with like 5 people overnight.

And yes I know how to set up admins, I set up me as an admin :3

Edit: For the too lazy to follow Pyro's stuff, this is what the custom server stuff has. Looks pretty cool. I'll also properly set things up later.
pyspades has:

Many administrator features
A lot of epic commands
A remote console (using SSH)
Map rotation
Map metadata (name, version, author, and map configuration)
Map extensions (water damage, etc.)
A map generator
An IRC client for managing your server
A JSON query webserver
A status server with map overview
Server/map scripts
Airstrikes
Melee attacks with the pickaxe
New gamemodes (deathmatch / runningman)
Rollback feature (rolling back to the original map)
Spectator mode
Dirt grenades
Platforms with buttons
Ban subscribe service
Statistics (for highscores on http://aos.mp2.dk)
A ton of other features
pyspades has been tested on Linux, Win32/64, FreeBSD and OS X so far, but should work on any appropriate platform with Python, Twisted and a compiler available.

I can see us having a lot of fun designing maps in freebuild and messing around with them in spades.

I forgot to specify that this only takes SMP style maps. We take a 512 square section of it in the GUI and then it converts it into a style that Ace of Spades can talk to. Obviously it isn't totally reliable but it is better than what it comes up with. When I get home I will take a section of terrain that people can build things in, we can take it, regen, and start again.

A map convertor? When I'm done with my world, we are so playing ace of spades on it...

Because you can easily convert freebuild maps into SMP ones.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I'll have to redo a few things on it anyway, the height is a bit over 256, and its not wide enough anyway.

Does water stay and work similarly to classic in AoS?

Kinda. It takes up level 0 but it's a bit + or - 5. Either way we'll keep varying the maps until people get sick of it.

AoS does 512x512x64, your map probably won't be optimal because it'll be easy to collapse it
