Man, this game has no way to live up to the expectations I have for it.

The newest addition to my cavalcade of desktop gadgets (and the first one I've made myself):

Eh, Skyrim's gonna be a wait-and-see thing for me. Maybe there'll be like a MMM for it that'll make it awesome, but right now it sounds like they may have dumbed it down too far, and I wanna play something more like Morrowind or Oblivion. That said, I am going back through Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Morrowind.

I just want to join the legion again, but that wasn't even possible in oblivion. It wasn't possible in the frikkin imperial capital.

Honestly, all it would have consisted of in Oblivion would be chasing down petty theives and kicking them till they only have 7 ribs unbroken. And lots of skeleton filled dungeons that looked identical and contained zero useful loot.

Don't know, back on morrowind the talk was that all the legions were recalled, so I was sure they would think of something interesting.

Hafnium informs me that it will be released the same time worldwide....on America time (for PC that is, console people are fine because it unlocks through Steam). Therefore, if it shows the trend that other Steam games do, I won't be able to play it until the twelfth. Needless to say, I am going to breakdown in tears, holding the game in my hands and not being able to play it for another day and a half.

DRM for Skyrim? Man I didn't know that. Let's hope it doesn't kill off the modding capability, which is if anything the best factor in Bethesda games. You mentioned console versions activate through steam though?

Nah I meant that console is fine and can begin playing it as soon as they receive it. But they have stated that the modding will be fine and even encouraged due to it's success in the last few releases. I can't get a quote for you but I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere.

Either way, it will just mean you need to activate it through Steam and then never have to worry about it again like any other game that you need to do that for (Just Cause 2 comes to mind for me). The bad thing is that unlocking time is worldwide, and naturally, because America is the center of the world, it will be on American time.

Oh that's good, I was worried Bethesda were going all Ubisoft style.

The unlock time is a side effect of Steamworks, and Steamworks will be the extent of the DRM. They would be stupid to break modding. Mods gave Oblivion so much more life.

If anything ever goes all Ubisoft style, they will go bankrupt. Silly PC games being to easy to pirate that all protection goes crazy. I wish I could upgrade my console...

It's just as easy to pirate games on the XBox360. And don't get me started on the Wii or portable consoles. Piracy is not an argument why PC games are doing relatively worse than console games and with 100% certainty DRM is not in combating piracy in statistically relevant manner.

It's just because major publishers forgot how to market (or design) their games on this platform. And yet the smaller studios, especially the ones not going with publishing deals but rather concentrating on digital distribution, are doing absolutely stellar on the PC.

Frequently you will hear reports that something that was only available on e.g. XBLA was ported to the PC and made more money in a week than it did on XBLA in a year.

RAAAAAGE no more midnight release here because MW3 killed all the fun. I'll have to wait another 10 hours. First world problems.
