GTAV

Thoughts? Speculations?

I hear that you won't be tied down to one character. Maybe that will mean you switch through the story and play it from many angles, or have a few similar yet different story arcs through from start to finish, similar to Episodes from Liberty City's missions, converging to the whole diamond thing.

Well, no matter what it is, this game looks awesome and after the life they put into GTAIV I'm keen as hell. I just hope they bring back a lot of countryside from the San Andreas version of L.A, that was rather good fun.

Eh some seems legit some doesn't. I hope they don't just make the same map as SA.

Also there are some minor spoilers in the pic, so read at your own risk or something.

I'm sure it'll be a good game but what new things can they really do that weren't in 4? Also it probably won't come out on PC and if it does it'll probably be a lazy ass port. GTA IV PC is THE... WORST.... PORT, lemme just say that again:

THE
WORST
PORT
EVER

I payed full price for that crap. I had to run it with about 6 seperate mods on to make it playble.

My hopes for GTA V are high, but not for PC. Anyone with a console is probably going to pick it up anyway.

Yeah I'm tossing up whether to go back to xbox for it. I never played GTAIV on PC (I bought it on Steam for like $5 the other day so I will soon) but hopefully that means it comes with some patches/support. We'll see. The reason I purchased an xbox was for GTAIV. It really is a console game, especially after Vice City and shit on PS2 being such epic fun.

Sounds pretty rad! I really don't know how to feel about the map being the same as San Andreas. It would be awesome but I just don't believe it until it is confirmed. The sheer size of Los Santos makes me doubt that other cities will be in it, but if they are, we will have a new contender for the best game of all time in my eyes :P

Well, the OP from 4chan said that it will be the same map, only bigger and more detailed. I will certainly not complain about that :)

Yeah but the OP from 4chan is the OP from 4chan...there would be more gravity if it was an official Rockstar announcement. Either way, I don't want to be sceptical until I have reason to, so bring on San Andreas 2!

I should imagine they would just recreate Los Santos and Red County, but on a far more detailed scale. And i'm still hoping for a GTA London 2!

It looks bloody amazing and all, but TBH I'm opting for Saints Row 3.

I think GTAV could be great fun, but Rockstar games has pushed it a bit to far.
I mean, since GTA3 they have made it much more realistic but also a bit to crazy. I like GTA4, and San Andreas especially the countryside. That was the best part.

Well since you brought up the dead thread I will say that I have recently been playing GTAIV on PC (after having completed it with a stupid amount of hours on xbox when it came out) and for a port I honestly don't think it is all that bad. The combat is very clunky, definitely, and belongs to a controller layout, but if they say that GTAV will be an internal and far better port to PC that makes me excited!

And even still, if controls are the worst thing about it (since it seems pretty impeccable otherwise) I'll happily buy one of those $30 adapters and put my xbox controller to my PC and use that, being that my PC will be able to make it look super pretty a lot easier than my xbox...

(In reply to Trep)

I am very excited about this otherwise. Release date should be given next month at Las Vegas E3, and hints point to an October release.

What do you mean by this and how does it relate to the other games? What have they pushed too far? The realism?

He's just saying things for the sake of saying them. The reason why Trep called it the worst port ever is because the initial framerate on release, no matter your rig, was horrendous.

I get a minimum of like 15-20 FPS when I do play GTA IV. It's bleh. Even in the lowest settings I still get that.

I've played all titles of the series since GTA:London until Rockstar decided to pass on my money by adding a ridicolous ammount of DRM bullshit to GTA IV.
My favourite part was GTA:SA - I've stoped couting the times I've played it already. I also still play the GTA2 multiplayer with a couple of friends once in a while

Well I've had no DRM troubles. It is only if you want to play online I thought. I'm definitely not looking forward to GTAV's DRM. I sense a 100% connection or be kicked and banned thing, which I have heard is also the system for the PC release of Max Payne 3 (Rockstar also) next week.

The only time I ever had performance issues with GTA IV was with the Ice enhancer mod, a Phenom 2 x6 @ 4ghz and Dual Radeon 6950's unlocked into 6970's weren't enough for completely smooth performance with that mod.
Haven't tried it with my latest spade of upgrades, might give it a whirl in the next few days.

Here is Ice Enhancer in action:

With that said, with the exception of GTA 1, 2 and 3... I've never really been able to immerse myself in GTA at all, GTA 4 I more or less drove around aimlessly staring at the pretty graphics with Ice Enhancer.
And I'm not super excited about GTA 5 either, but it will probably be something I pick up eventually just so I can keep the collection going.
