auto notification of command abuse?
auto notification of command abuse?
Since all actions are logged on the server, how difficult would this be?
Add a checkbox in the server config that enabled sending a notice/message to staff (or a server message) something like...
PLAYERNAME CREATED A CUBOID ON WORLDNAME OF X BLOCKS.
the message would ONLY fire off if a veteran or builder executed a cuboid on main/guest (perhaps greater than a certain # of blocks which could also be set in config?)
this would GREATLY help moderators react immediately to cuboid abuse and since the info is already there in the server logs it would seem like something that's easy to do.
(i recommended the check box in the server config UI in case server owners wanted to disable those messages.)
but for us... here at fcraft official... i say we leave that sucker ON.

This would lead to extreme chat spam.
Hafnium is already working on an API to the log files that will allow to quickly filter out and identify potential griefing.
The ultimate solution will be block tracking, when it comes... =)

Re: auto notification of command abuse?
extreme chat spam? you think it would though?
that's why i was saying it should be a staff message.
and ONLY if a builder.. or vet... created a cuboid on main or guest.
because honestly.. the should NOT be and as soon as they do it.. they should be dealt with.
i'd rather a few extra chat messages on my screen than having 2-3 ops stop what they're doing and trying to investigate cuboid spam (which is almost always how it's handled)
looking back in the logs usually only happens if someone sees the cuboid.. not if it was created.. then /undo or if it was done underground... or if someone starts small and progressively makes larger ones when they realize nobody is really looking.
maybe we could lose some of the 'join' 'left' server messages.
or how about !nudge. that wasn't spammy at all.

!nudge serves a purpose.

Re: auto notification of command abuse?
Maybe a command that checks the last cuboids a player made. But yeah, useless when we have block tracking. Or whatever. Bye.

Re: auto notification of command abuse?
a lot of the time when there arent too many griefers, i go around doing grass cuboids to clean up griefed ground areas and air cuboids to clear stuff too. If other builders/vets do this, i dont know how much use a feature like this would be.

i doubt this awesome idea will ever see the light of day so it doesn't matter too much.

Re: auto notification of command abuse?
Actually I really like this idea, obviously there are certain draw command sizes that are just unacceptable on a guest map, and they're either griefing, or need to be called out on wasting the guest's space. It will only spam chat if the draw command limit is quite low.
It should show up only for ops+ and it could be real useful for stopping draw command grief, and massive cuboid monstrocities on main.

We can always just pretend we have this, to scare people.

Re: auto notification of command abuse?
if your going to add it.
disable notifications for cuboids on or slightly below the grass level.
that way it wont catch people cleaning up main. because removing spam doesn't effect to many blocks. nor does fixing a building.

Report in every cuboid, spheres, or any of the other commands which is over 5k blocks in size. Only made by builders and veterans. Only made in guest or main.
