CMP Contests

Hi everyone!

Since we are now advertising for CMP and we haven't had one of these in quite a while, it's time to once again renew building contests! If these really take off and we like what we see, we'll continue setting these up.

What is the building contest?

This is a contest we hold for anyone in the community who is ranked builder or higher, to give you a chance to show off your building skill and earn some cool prizes! Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries, including a steam game for the grand prize.

How do I enter?

To enter, simply join the Contest map (/j contest), and start building! We have a 1000x1000 world, so you should have enough room to build. If need be, we can extend the map out, so if your build cannot fit, then just ask us and we'll take care of it.

How much time will I have to build?

The contest will be open for a period of two weeks, beginning, in this case, January 7th, 2013 at 00:00 UTC. The contest will end January 21st, 2013 at 00:00 UTC.

How is the contest judged?

Our group of Event Planners will be reviewing all entries after the two-week building period is over. We will privately hold an unbiased vote to determine the winners, based on characteristics such as effort, detail, originality, and adherence to the theme. This process usually takes about one week, and the winners will be posted on the forums.

What are the rules for this contest?

- Everyone participating can only build one entry.
- You may not use pre-existing builds for your entry; for it to be acceptable, you must make it during the contest time period.
- If you need large draw commands for your build, but your draw limit won't let you make them, you are allowed to ask someone with the appropriate draw limit to help.

What is the theme for this contest?

This contest's theme is MUSIC

Please submit your entries with an in-game name, location (Found by pressing F3 and looking at the X: Y: and Z:), and any extra information you want to provide; such as the inspiration for the build, any pictures you wish etc. (THIS IS OPTIONAL)

The winners of the Spawn Creation contest will be listed below;

Not convienent timing as I see don't see the mods being updated any time soon. I tried downgrading but lost my saves and it didn't work anyway.

Use spoutcraft, it's always on the bukkit stable release

True, it would be wise to wait until after bukkit updates. But that will take a while since it's pretty far behind as it is, and since we're advertising and working to get the word out about this server, I say let those interested in it build.

I'm using spoutcraft, but since I lost my Veteran ranking, and I'm back down to guest, I can't build.

Well I am not of builder rank yet, that and the hours I've been on today I'm the only one, so I claimed a plot and built my submission.

Well it seems the map has been overwritten with a normal world. Awesome. So I'll be extending the contest another two days. This is why we can't have nice things.

Element, your map was corrupt and multiverse wouldn't load it so I made the refrained one to help with the theme. It's easier to flatten terrain than to build it. I also added rules and shit so just roll with it. I would have told you but busy.

Fair enough. I'll add the contest info to the map when I get home later tonight.

Since Element failed at making the map as a plotworld, we suffered an unfortunate grief attack that affected some builds, and also exposed a weakness in our logblock plugin WHICH HAS NOW BEEN FIXED, the contest might get extended. Or might not. I dunno.

Either way, it won't happen again but if it did, sorry we didn't find the glitch sooner, but it has now been mitigated. Also the spawns won't fit in the main world since the plots are the wrong size. Good one Element.

But seriously, I didn't make it as a plotme world because 1, I have absolutely no idea how to set one up and nobody who did know was around and 2, I hoped there would be at least some degree of an honor system in contests and that people would NOT grief other entries. We never had this problem on the freebuild contests, so I wasn't expecting to have it here.

Also, the size of the spawns are based off the size of your Eiffel tower. If it can fit, then the other ones will too.

Eh, could have been any amount of smaller plots, doesn't matter though. All good now. We can at least rollback grief.

Submitting my entry since I won't be here in a few days:

Seattle Space Needle. Not quite finished but I ran out of time. Will add lighting and stuff upon return after the contest closes.

I was able to return in between my Xmas and New Year's trip to complete the interior and spruce up the joint. Same location.
