What keeps YOU playing?
What keeps YOU playing?
I was thinking about this earlier today; I think it might be interesting to see what all of you guys get out of Minecraft!
I'll start:
It's a hard question for me to answer, as my interests in the game have changed over time. I originally began playing Minecraft having never played a real sandbox game before. I thought the concept of it was incredibly neat -- being able to build anything you felt like building piqued my interest. I started off building the stereotypical Guest buildings, but quickly realized how much you could potentially do with the tools you're provided. I find it fascinating that it's possible to put so much detail into structures crafted from simple colored blocks. Before long, I began to experiment a lot with pixel art. It is probably, to this day, my favorite type of building to do in Minecraft. It is not a super difficult art form (if you have the right reference), but the results are always very satisfying. As I spent more and more time playing, I began working my way through the ranks. When I reached what used to be the Mod rank, I began spending the majority of my time playing babysitter with the new members. Personally, patrolling is not my favorite thing to do, but what I absolutely LOVE is helping others to experience the same joy that I got to experience when I first began playing. Now, I still spend some of my time building, but I've found that I enjoy getting to know the community and helping out much more than just playing the game.
So, that is why I'm still hooked. What keeps YOU playing?

Re: What keeps YOU playing?
Minecraft is the only thing that allows me to make anything I want and immediately interact with it, along with other people. I still like to play with 3dsmax, but it obviously lacks the social and gaming aspect being "just" a modelling program.

What originally hooked me on minecraft was the idea of something like legos that let you walk through and interact with your creations. At this point though, I enjoy minecraft because of the community that we've built around our server.

At some point it just became habit to click the little run icon as soon as the desktop loaded.

The community is what makes it great, but I initially got into this game since I just really love building stuff, even if my builds suck

Basically the ability of creating almost anything i desire , as hafnium said , this remind's me of lego :p and also being able to talk with other people from around the world is just something that i like to do , may it be english french spanish german etc .. being able to communicate and have fun with others is what brought me to minecraft!

Tough question. I play to inspire and more importantly, to be inspired by the community but I have been following an on-again off-again trend for a long time now. As for the reason why I keep coming back? I'll just leave this here.

Basically the originality of the game and the ability to build anything you want. I also enjoy the community that I play with. More or so a socializing reason since I have no real life friends.

what keeps me playing is all the newly released mods.
minecraft has gotten boring in one month -.-
and also the feeling of kicking someone bad (griefers, tunnelers ect.)
and building houses to grief with Jerome.

I haven't been honest with you at all... The reality is that Fragmer forces too shoot me in the head if I quit the server...bilde wrote:I have no other life... Is that answer enough?

Re: What keeps YOU playing?
I only started minecraft 1 month ago, so it's fairly still new to me.
What got me interested, like many, was the ease of use of being able to create stuff and easily being able to share it with others. I enjoy creating stuff. I've created maps for Team Fortress 2 as well, however, it's a bit more difficult and time consuming to use the Hammer editor to make maps heh.
(note: I only made 1 TF2 map that I put out there for other people to download and play, but have a couple more that I never quite finished all the way.... wouldn't take long to get them finished though, but started getting bored of TF2 about 6 months ago... I have 2,000 hours played in it.)
Right now I am enjoying encouraging guests to build good builds and helping them along by giving them ideas or showing them ideas on what to do with their builds.

Re: What keeps YOU playing?
What gets me coming back is that its nostalgic to being a kid in my garage playing with the box of basic Lego blocks. As I grew older the blocks became more complex and easier to build with the specialty pieces. Now with minecraft I am a kid again in my garage.
With all that said everyone here has been helpful and nice.
Now who wants to help me build something epic.

For me, it's definitely a combination of the people, what with it being a very social server, and the appeal of the game in general, being able to build whatever you can imagine and share it with people.

It is kinda like lego, i used to spend hours trying to make the milenium falcon, then my brother wouldnt come in and say, wow can i have a look at that...WTF YOU STUPID F**K, GTFO I SPENT HOURS YOU TW*T.
Minecraft just doesnt have that nostalgia though, unless youre still a guest.

Re: What keeps YOU playing?
It's definitely the community. I'm intimately familiar with Minecraft as a game, so it doesn't really have much to offer by itself
It's very satifying to see people get excited over new stuff in fCraft, and your feedback and enthusiasm kept me working on the project for some 20 months now. It's the longest-living piece of custom Minecraft software still in development . Thank you!
