Update Error

I've looked through the forums to see if this has been previously posted and didn't see a thread; if I missed one I'm sorry to make a new one! When I start up my server, I receive an error: An error occured while trying to check for updates: System.Net.WebException: The request timed out. This seemed to come up quite randomly and I'm not sure why. Also, I'm not sure if it's related but for the past 3 months or so I haven't been able to join my own server, though everyone else can just fine. It always tells me "The server must be down!" or something alone those lines. I don't think the lack of updated server software would cause this, but I guess it could. Thanks for the help!
