What concerns me is this:
Apparently Notch can look right at this and not see a problem with this. It's been around forever, and it won't go away until Notch releases the damn source code. (forgive the crooked lines)
To illustrate my point, here are two of the more blatant examples I've discovered in my wanderings. From what I can tell, the generation techniques that cause this have not be fixed at all.

So Notch is implementing things I have been able to do with Fragmer's terrain gen for months.
Now that I think of it, I don't believe I have ever been able to gen boxy rivers

I can't stop seeing it myself. I ALWAYS notice Notch's annoying giant corners on everything.

He needs a finer octave on his perlin generator is all.

Damn thing's so big I had to fish-eye the whole damn thing to get it in one screen.
Fun fact: That picture is 4 pixels wider than my monitor.
