Colored name confusion.

With the introduction of colored names for donating, I have noticed two things:

1) People seem to be incredibly willing to donate; I've had plenty of people tell me that they plan on donating, for that reason.

2) There is a lot of confusion as to who is which rank. If enough people have colored names, this could be a problem.

What I am suggesting:

It is easy to tell who is a trustee because of the + prefix in front of their names. Perhaps we could add a prefix for Ops and SupOps as well (maybe - or = ?). This might alleviate a lot of the confusion.

We had prefixes on SMP, I don't see why not on Classic. :)

Yeah, we'll copy our SMP setup, making up stuff as we go along. The upside is also that prefixes will be rank-colored since they are added later.

I thought of this earlier, but forgot to ask about it. Rank-colored prefixes should definitely be enough to get rid of any rank confusion.

Apologies for the double-post, but I just thought of something -- when we are able to have multiple-character prefixes, why not use letters to signify ranks? Our rank names all begin with unique letters (except Op and Owner)

[g] guest
builder
[v] veteran
[o] op
supop
[t] trustee
[t] trustess
[m] mason
[a] architect
[#] owner

That way, even with colored names, it'll still be easy to determine ranks, without having to decipher messy-looking symbols:

This is the cleanest, least confusing way I can think of using rank prefixes while we also have colored names.

Yes, yes. Fragmer will be on it. We could mod fCraft to do it like that but we don't want to stray from mainline, being the official server and all. :3

Yea. Sure.

But I love the idea actually.

Oh come on, its the same thing! Though I'd keep the + for trustee/ss anyways, just looks nicer.

you already can do that, just add the letter and color before the name. Fragmer could make your name notch if he wanted to.

We're looking to use the existing prefix system already coded in fCraft, except with multiple characters. It would be a huge mess to manually change the prefix for every single player.

or you could just do it for color'd named players.

or...

[t♀]

[t♂]

since we seem intent on identifying the gender of our most trusted players.

It is not us that need this identification. Our female trustees were bothering me for MONTHS for a pink name back in the day and I finally gave in. :-P

Actually, I just tested these in chat on my private server. They are all the same width, except [t]! Using [+] solves this problem; they look purdy!
