BF3 and MW3

as some of u newfags people may know, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 are coming out quite soon. as always, i always hear about the rave that MW3 is 'S0 B3@ST0R', and with that, i hear other fanboys sayin 'D00d, BF3 I5 Le1k, W@@@y B3TTr'
and then a flame war ensues.
Image

nah, i'm not here to flame. I just want some opinions and critiques on the 2 games as they appear so far. To keep things relevant, i'll post the links for a major gameplay demo for each game.

MW3 (2 parts):
Soviet Siege of NYC (sad that i can't be the Russians in this :l):
Show
BF3:
Fault Line:
Show
My Opinion:
After watching these 2, this is my opinion: MW3 hasn't really changed since MW1. But after watching the demo, i think that MW3 looks more like a JJ Abrams blockbuster than a desperate fight to rid the soviets from US soil. Also, with all that action going on, i must point out that most of that is scripted, and presents no actual obstacle to the player. It's focused mainly on attacking the infantry in a very exciting situation, Jack Bauer style. You get shot at 100 times, and you never die. Compare this to Battlefield 3, where tactics like flanking, taking cover, and suppressive fire take into effect. Not to mention the sheer increase in level of quality, where it really feels more realistic. However, yes, i agree there are a number of scenes where it's most likely scripted, but not as obvious as MW3. MW3 seems to be less driven by quality, and more on the fact that, hey, they'll get millions of sales regardless. As much as i dislike EA, i must say that Battlefield 3 is looking very promising. Too bad they'll cut server maintenance in a year or so. :/
So, what dost ye persons thinkth?

My opinion: not interested in either! The generic war-shooter formula got old by the time I got bored with BF2.

I don't care for either of the GAMES specifically, but my opinion resides in the fans.

BF3: "Well battlefield 3 will have the following features ... and will be really well made in terms of multiplayer ... and that's why I think I prefer it over the other major FPS franchises."

MW3: "lolshut da fuk up bf3fags mw3 will pwn u all!!!1! COD IS DA BEST"

i shoulda added a disclaimer: If you don't care, don't post. (includes owners. :P)

ollie, lol, you do have a point. tbh, most cod fans don't know what quality gaming is. (e.g. Half life, World in Conflict, Oblivion, etc.) but imo, it really depends on the community. A good game without a good community is worthless.

@ Lim: I don't think BF2 will ever get old. :P It's much better than MoH or CoD, you have to admit. Unless you're thinking about ARMA, i'm not sure where you place the 'generic FPS shooter' characterization.

By watching the trailers, MW3 looks like a tweaked MW2 to me.

Generic call of battlefield duty of honour valour modern warfare combat 23?

No thanks.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is all you'll ever need from a shooter.

I bought BF2 in a steam sale a few months ago because I lost my disk and let me tell you, it got old.

CoD is a twitchy reaction test while BF introduces elements of strategy and teamwork. I prefer the BF series, but I'm not going to say that one is better than the other. It all depends on what type of game you want to play.

Battlefield 1942 was the first major multiplayer-based game I ever played. The battlefield series has had a history of pulling a WoW and not offering any singleplayer gameplay to be heard of. I found the Battlefield 2 campaign (if you could call it that) quite lacking. Singleplayer wasn't really introduced until Bad Company. I have played multiple generations of both games and I must say that imo the Battlefield series offers the better variety of gameplay. Not to mention I can out fly anyone here in a jet. 8)

Pretty much why I enjoy the BF series and why I actually look forward to their games expecting completely new content.

I do like a bit of COD now and then, but this time i'll be getting BF3 since it looks a bit different. However you just couldn't do what this guy does in BF3.

I don't know what you are hoping for by constantly saying that stuff that most people obviously like is utter garbage. Should we laugh about your hilarious and rhetoric masterwork of a comment, should we just disregard it, what.

I like different types of games... I prefer retro gaming like PacMan and Tetris (yeah, call me a hipster... my opinion stands.)

Not only do Hipsters annoy the fuck out of me but liking old games does not count you as a hipster. Maybe 10 years ago, yes but that would of been under the "Nerd" sub-culture. Gaming is in the norm now.

After Battlefield 3, i will have enough FPS games (excluding Halo maybe) for a lifetime of playing and i would want something new. FPS are starting to be the new overused genre just after the Zombie theme.

So about this whole BF3 against MW3 conflict. Step back and look at the situation in a years time, then again in 10 years. Was this conflict even worth it? If people buy MW3 hoping that it will be different to their last game, it would be their loss - history shows that Activision will not change their game tactics. Their copy and paste motto is held together with duct tape layered in Cock lube.

Ciao

I don't like the majority of old games, I don't fall for this retro lark either. In most cases these games are too simplistic for me, even though I respect the fact that they were made a while ago. Note I'd define "old" as anything before the 5th generation (PSX, N64, Saturn).

Eh, when I want a war-themed shooter, I just boot up MechWarrior Living Legends. It's better than anything EA and Activision have ever put out for shooters.

Those are consoles, not PCs... They don't count! :P

What an excellent analogy! :happycreeper:

It's true though. Activision (ever since the firing of infinity ward's chiefs Jason West and Vince Zampella) showed how they had little regard for the game itself and mainly cared about it's profits from the series more than anything. (and if it means keep making the same thing over and over, then they'll do it)

In EA's case regarding BF3, imo, it's an attempt to initiate a 'dramatic revival' to get amazing sales and support (as well as playing the card of high expectations as a benefit rather than a hiderance, something that Valve successfully used for Portal 2).

Either way, I hate both companies. The only gaming company I love is Massive Entertainment. World in Conflict and Ground Control will never get olde. :D

I don't really care about the companies behind the games...
I do hate the communities, my first FPS was Combat Arms and you could literally buy yourself victory if you had enough money.
COD community it the most contradicting community ever.
They say COD is popular because of realism and zombies.
That's right, they put realism and zombies in the same sentence.
Next I'd like to remind them about the magical warp from and to gunship/chopper gunner/ac130, perks, unrealistic gravity in terms of bullet gravity and killstreaks in general:
"''Hey we got this awesome chopper we got which could easily allow us to achieve victory but we aren't gonna give it to you because you can't get 11 kills without dieing against equal opponents''.
About battlefield: Never played so can't give any opininon except that I think it looks more realistic.
I prefer Halo over CoD because it's not realisic, it may not look realistic, but at least there are no overpowered guns or perks or killstreaks, because the only overpowered weapons you fight over, there will never be a case of 5 people in a team having a noob tube ready 2 seconds after the game started which happens to be plausible in CoD.
Something else about CoD: CoD on Nintendo:
DS: I wouldn't call it CoD anymore...
Wii: It's CoD but with a ridicilous hard aiming system as gamecube controllers are NOT allowed...
This means i had to use overkill to give myself 2 noobtubes because getting a positive kd was near impossible... (i had the contol scheme fucked up, that was part of the problem as well)
