I hope this will be confirmed by other teams worldwide.

As long as it doesn't eat you first.

Very interesting article though.

And they said i was crazy!

btw, This means we'll be able to find our parallel universe and implode ourselves. yay!

According to that article, the imploding will happen to somebody else, not us!

I never understood why they think the speed of light is the ultimate max speed in the universe.
And the only 'constant'. Its only handy to assume it does for 'math', or theory's about stuff.

Its never proven that there was anything faster, becouse we simply dont have anything faster then light.
Altho, its also accepted that the universe is expanding faster then light.

And time travel becouse we can go faster then light? neah...
If you go near the speed/faster then light, YOU will slowdown (einstein).
So you wont go travel in the past, but to the future.

Einstein was the one who told us we couldn't go faster to begin with, not sure I believe anything that prick told me anymore!

Now we can reverse the tachyon beam pulse from the deflector dish and solve all of our problems.

Has everybody missed the entire point that with FTL particles you can send information BACK in time supposedly?

Dude, velociraptors.

I thought that particles traveling faster than light would experience less passing time than us, but not actually travel into the past.

I thought when somebody flys faster then light, then he will see the past!

Actually if you travel exactly at the speed of light, time is not passing for you at all. According to Einstein's theory traveling faster than light is like dividing by 0 - you just can't do it, so up until now it was pointless to speculate what would happen (on a scientific level).

I for my part am not that amazed because a few years ago I read a similar story - I don't quite understand how this is different but according to quantum theory and the uncertainty principle some particles travel slightly faster than light (or appear to do so).

Let's see what happens in a few months/years and then we can rejoice (or not). I spent a large portion of my life taking in stories about experiments run in the particle accelerator my father was working at (DESY), so I'm a bit skeptical about scientific discovery "NEWSBOMBS" since many times reporters just pick something up based on keywords and not what was actually discovered or cherry-pick the scientists that are quick to jump to conclusions only to be disappointed later.

"OMGWTFBBQ - FASTER THAN LIGHT!"

Cold Fusion comes to mind... (Real fusion - now that's what I'm VERY excited about! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITER)

My PtCruiser goes faster than light.

You are correct!

beeriebeer wrote:I thought when somebody flys faster then light, then he will see the past!
Nope, we can allready see the past at this point. Only the past isnt from earth but from other plannets. So what you need to do is travel faster then light (say 500x faster) then setup the same scopes we have here on earth on a other planet, so you can 'catch' the light that was send some years ago.

This is alright and all, physics breaking stuff, but it isn't horribly useful. However, controlling electrons, now THAT'S something.
