could be made a bit less tedious, having a private chat command available to guests would allow them to speak any language they want without having to type @username each time, could also help rid the chat of teaching chat.

Sounds pointless, explain more.

Are you asking for an improvement on what Private chat already is?

I don't want to type @randomusername everytime. Khan has stuff to do you know.
So you know, maybe an extra option to deafen both players to all but eachother. Promotee can't claim he didn't see your warning about not spamming spheres.

or maybe it's a toggle command like /follow.
/pm username
then any text you type goes only to that username.
to get out of PM you type /pm again or some similar command.
the 'un' prefix is popular.. maybe '/unpm'
i agree it would be helpful at times. expecially for training.

Maybe a better idea, chat channels.
Each world will get his own channel, and we have global and staff (and irc?). (just channels then)
Default you will be on the global channel.
The world channel only shows for people in that world.
The staff and global channel shows for everybody (if you have the rights).
With /defen global you will mute global for you.
With /channel <channel | world> you can switch for multiple chats. (all your chats goto chat channel). (without even switching worlds).
With /<channel | world> <msg> You just say 1 thing on that channel and keep your old one.
O only /channel <world> [msg], without msg it will switch. Otherwise 1 msg.
Now the sweat part.
'auto join channel' setting for a world.
and
'auto defen global' setting for a world.
settings!
Only for school those are on.
note: op+ will allwase get the staff channel.
I see only one downside.
A guest in lets say guest world. Doesnt notice or doesnt know how to get out of the guest channel once he did /channel guest. Nobody will hear his chats.
I see good 'upsides'.
A school wont cluther chat anymore, and they can easly understand / wont miss. a chat.
Even architects can talk about there builds without much distraction in global.
As the default is global, i dont think you will 'isolate' people with this settup.
Unless you make each world 'auto join' and 'auto defen'.

Something like that is what I had in mind, yes. Anything to clean up the chat. Anything that's viable.

Maybe we can do Channels by a few worlds like school and builder+. And by global chat main guest, oldmain, oldguest, spleef, en worlds like those.

How about
replies to whoever PM'd you last. For a start.

Maybe you could consider it including who PM'd you AND who you PM'd for messages in succession?
Code: Select all
Ollieboy: @fragmer Hey baby you're so hot
Ollieboy: /re and I want you have your babies.
Fragmer: /re Oh hey baby sure, meet me behind the Mario pixel art
Hafnium: @fragmer Oi I like potatos
Fragmer: /re Cool! Me too
Fragmer: @Ollieboy Sorry baby, now were where we?
Fragmer: /re *where were.

I like the /re idea, it would be much faster.

You could make
repeat just @username or just /staff without repeating the entire message as well? For a start.

It should work for /staff already. PMs aren't really handled by the command subsystem, so I'm not sure if it'll be appropriate to have "/" repeat that.

This post is gold Ollie :3
and yes, I am liking where this is going.
the clutter-ded-ness of Freebuild chat has always hurt my eyes...
I do have a question though.
In SMP, there is a translucent box that appears behind chat when you press the chat button.
I realize that this is in no way related to fCraft whatsoever, but perhaps one of you guys knows how to modify the classic client so that it "replicates" this action?
Are the two clients similar enough where I can just drag one .class file from one .jar into the other?
I've always wondered, because minecraft's wonderful aliased environment always has me squinting at my bright, 10-inch screen >_>

capi - that would be great. The best place to request such feature would be on WoM forums:

isnt WoM a wrapper though? :l
I was under the impression that you would actually need to edit the mc.jar to accomplish something like this :/
edit: sorry for stealing the post
