SMP Testing

I set up a temporary vanilla SMP server to see how it fares. No guarantee of the world surviving or anything and it's 20 slots at the moment with just 1GB memory assigned.
Connect via
forum.fcraft.net (he, he ;-)
and report how it works.
P.S. Yes, we have the old worlds to use eventually if the need arises.

I promise that the need WILL arrive. Though we may have to do a cleanout of any builds of people that DIDN'T make the switch to free up some room.

Seems like SMP has some bugs still.

From what I saw in the 10 minutes or so I was online, there doesn't really seem to be any issues with the server itself. I ran into a few client issues though; particularly that my game no longer displays the menu upon loading, but instead shows the default background for a few moments, followed by a black screen
...But that's notch's fault

The just bad thing i notice is this:
I don't know if this is server's fault or Notch's fault. ^^

That would be Notch's. Usually if you edit one block in the darkened area it'll go back to normal

Considering the server is 100% notch at the moment, you can address all your complaints to him.

Nothing on our end. Blame Notch. ^^
Server works fine despite these errors too.

What's with you smp guys and this need for the "old map". What's wrong with starting over?

Depends, which "old map" are they speaking of...

From what I understand Bukkit is perma-broken so we can't return to pretty much anything. It's only a test to see if we can run SMP at all anyways. (Seems we can, at least vanilla)

Bukkit isn't perma-broken, we CAN run it, but I won't have the time to babysit it for another few weeks.

Got word through vPersistant that a few items are now missing. I'm curious as to who it was as mainly only people that join the forum know about the existence of the server.

Two suggestions:
- Downgrade to 1.5, so the necessary mods can be installed. Only update the server when mods are updated. The perm/temp map switches on Spa were a PITA.
- I'm in favor of a new map, this is a new community, it deserves a new world too.

It's harder to update all the plugins than it is to just start fresh (imo), but I do agree on the new map
Edit: We have had several stealing and grief incidents on this map, wouldn't advise using it for the long term.

Yeah make a new map, and then copy Salvezza over when I get it done on my local server

Considering the great possibility of a new map...whose up for building a castle like Leo's with me?!?!?

Well, took me a while to build the outerwalls of my themepark.
But i can start over

no fancy redstone stuff yet.
It should realy be nice if N*tch builded a version control into his client, so if the server is 1.4 the client goes to 1.4 and if the server is 1.5 the client is 1.5.
Maybe if we get some gaming communities to bother notch about it, he will do it

You know what I meant. I don't mean an exact replica, nor do I plan on making one even remotely close. Though, if you have any future projects I'd be willing to help! Your castle was just an example of a level of awesomeness

If they can move things, I'd love for my fortress to be moved.
