Act 4 can feel like a straight shot if you're chasing story progress, but Krutog, Lord of Kin is one of those "don't skip it" detours. Even if you're only thinking about loot, this fight pays you back later because freeing Matiki opens up the Trial of the Ancestors questline and its permanent power bumps. If you're planning your upgrades and trading along the way, it's the same mindset you'd bring to picking up something like Exalted Orb before a big push—you do it because it smooths out the long run, not because it's flashy in the moment.
Getting to the throne
You'll reach him at the far end of the Isle of Kin, planted on a huge throne like he owns the whole act. The annoying part is the walk there through the Volcanic Warrens. People rush it, then wonder why they enter the arena half-drained. Don't do that. Take the extra minute to steady your pace, clear what's in your way, and top off flasks. The fight snaps on the second you get close, so "I'll prep inside the room" isn't a plan.
What the fight really asks from you
Krutog isn't tricky, he's stubborn. He's tanky, and he feels especially rough if your damage type lines up badly. Lightning builds without solid penetration can feel like they're throwing wet paper at plate armor. Physical builds also hit that wall until you start breaking through. The upside is his tells are slow. You'll see the wind-up, you'll have time to move, and you don't need hero plays. Just keep hitting, keep breathing, and don't chase damage when you should be repositioning.
Movement, space, and the sulphite mess
Staying mobile matters more than raw DPS here. Backpedaling gets you clipped; it always does. Roll through him or circle to his back, then reset. A lot of his kit struggles to tag you from behind, so treat that as your default. Mid-fight he'll start eating sulphite and then spit out toxic pools that sting with a nasty physical-and-lightning mix. The arena isn't generous, so manage the floor like it's your real resource. Bait pools toward the edges, let a corner get "dirty," then pull him to clean space before you run out of room.
When to bail out and why it's worth it
The stomp sequence is the only time you should fully disengage. He slams the ground over and over, and trying to tank it is how runs end for no good reason. Create distance, wait it out, then go back to your steady rhythm.
